Hey there! I’m excited to welcome you to my blog, Curated Comforts! As an interior designer based in the dynamic Dallas metroplex, I created this space not just to share my design journey but also to offer tips and tricks that can help you turn your own space into a stylish refuge of comfort.

I didn't know what Interior Design was until I was in college. It was a game-changing time that totally influenced my career path and what I'm into personally. As I dove into all the courses, I was hooked by how design can transform a space and affect the people in it. Every class opened my eyes to new aspects of design, like color theory, spatial planning, the history of architectural styles, and the psychology behind design choices. This all-encompassing curriculum didn’t just catch my interest; it sparked a creative fire in me and uncovered a hidden talent for aesthetics and functionality that I didn’t even know I had.

My Design Aesthetic: A Blend of Mid-Century Modern and Bohemian Vibes

One of the most rewarding aspects of design is the chance to mix styles creatively. My personal aesthetic combines mid-century modern and bohemian elements. I love the clean lines and functional forms found in mid-century pieces, and I’m drawn to the warmth and earthy tones that characterize bohemian decor.

Mid-century modern style offers a timeless appeal, showcasing clean lines, organic shapes, and vibrant colors. In contrast, bohemian decor is all about layers, textures, and diverse patterns that collectively tell a story. By blending these two styles, I create living spaces that feel both chic and inviting—ideal for relaxation or entertaining.

For instance, imagine a vibrant living room where a sleek mid-century sofa is complemented by colorful bohemian throw pillows and textured woven rugs. This mix not only enhances the space but also invites warmth and comfort.

The Journey: From Passion to Profession

Looking back, I see my path to becoming an interior designer as more of a calling than just a job. As a child, I often rearranged my room, experimenting with layouts to discover what comfort meant to me. Those formative experiences laid the groundwork for my understanding of space and design.

Years later, I took the plunge after earning my design degree. While starting my own business felt overwhelming, each challenge helped me grow. The joy of connecting with clients and bringing their design visions to life has proven to be one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.

Design Tricks to Transform Your Space

As I embark on this blogging journey, I want to equip you with practical design tricks that can enhance any space. Whether you are an experienced decorator or just beginning, these tips can guide you in making confident design choices.

1. Embrace Color

Color is transformative! Start with small accent pieces, such as cushions or wall art, and gradually incorporate bolder colors into larger items like furniture or walls. For example, adding a vibrant teal sofa can instantly elevate a neutral living room. Keep in mind that colors evoke feelings, so select shades that align with the mood you want to create.

2. Layer Textures

Mixing textures is essential for a well-designed space. Try combining soft textiles with hard surfaces to achieve depth. For instance, draping a plush throw over a sleek leather sofa or placing a woven rug on polished hardwood floors creates a rich contrast that adds interest to your interiors.

3. Tell a Story

Every room should reflect who you are. Showcase items from your travels, family heirlooms, or personal mementos. Displaying these pieces thoughtfully can create a cohesive narrative in your design, making your space feel authentic and unique.

4. Scale Matters

When furnishing a room, pay attention to scale. Large furniture can overwhelm a small space, while too many small items can create clutter in a larger area. Aim for a balance by mixing different sizes and ensuring everything is proportionate for aesthetic harmony.

5. Lighting Can Make or Break a Room

Good lighting is crucial to any space. A combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting can create a warm atmosphere. For example, consider pairing a stylish floor lamp with table lamps and overhead fixtures to add depth and functionality to your home.
